Can any D1/D2/Mini tour guys give me a little context of course conditions you play on? : golf

I’m a D3 golfer, 4.9 usga hdc, and quite frankly I’m utterly embarrassed by the scores I’m putting up in tournaments/matches. So embarrassed I won’t be sharing them. Undoubtedly a large culprit to my scores is my inability to hit a golf ball, so please do not take this as an attempt to make an excuse for my piss poor play. I will say though that the courses I seem to be playing mostly are not in the greatest of conditions. They are usually very tight and very punishing. The greens in my opinion are not in good shape. Local public courses have greens that are in great shape yet a D3 tournament at a private country club has greens that are either caked with moss or some kind of paste that has been put on them to repair. I don’t know enough about green management to even know what it is i’m stepping on or putting across. To put it into perspective, I along with many others, putt a 17 ft birdie putt off the green into a very large ravine/penalty area only to take our penalty and putt again from the same location.

So what is my question? My question is what kind of courses are you guys playing on? Would you consider them in good condition? Do you have any suggestions on navigating this because I would not spend my own money to play some of these courses. I’d rather play on a public course with my dollar than some of these.

I seriously hope I’m not coming across as whining, I’ve got to figure out how to play better golf with what I’m given. It’s on me, not the course. I am really curious what others are dealing with though.
